The Ringo Awards are currently accepting nominations for work published in 2024. Unlike other comic book industry awards, the Ringos accept nominations from fans and pros alike.
This is where I humbly ask you, my readers, to nominate Table Titans Club for a Ringo Award.
For those of you who don’t know, the Ringo Award is named after legendary comic book artist Mike Weiringo, who, sadly, left us in 2007. He was best known for his work with Mark Waid on the Flash and Fantastic Four books and his creator-owned fantasy series Tellos.
Mike was a friend and one of the kindest people I’ve ever met. From the day he met me, he went out of his way to make me feel good about myself and my work. I was just a dumb webcomic artist, but Mike was a fan of PvP, and he never wanted to talk about all the amazing things he was doing at DC and Marvel. He always wanted to talk about what I was up to next.
Mike had a wonderful, cartoony style that he lamented had fallen out of favor with comic book publishers. It was stylistic, iconic, and fun (and beloved by fans). It was full of expressive characters and favored action over violence.
Nothing would please me more than seeing Table Titans Club nominated for a Ringo award. So I submit it to you for your consideration. If you enjoyed the book consider giving it a vote online.
You got my vote!
Waid & Weiringo’s Fantastic Four run revived my interest in Marvel Comics. I loved Weiringo’s style!
Table Titans Club is already on my balot, and DANG I miss Mike too. <3
