Turning the page

Saying goodbye to Toonhound Studios and looking forward.

I have a new website. You can find it at scottkurtz.com. This will be my new home online for the foreseeable future. It’s a pretty simple site, typical for an author and illustrator. Which is what I am now.

My old websites, including toonhoundstudios.com and pvponline.com, are no more. I’m done with WordPress and managing archive databases. And I’m not really interested in moving my old webcomics to platforms like Tapas or Webtoons either.

Instead, I’ve collected the entire twenty years of PvP into seven digital collections and put them up for sale on my new Gumroad store. These are a long time coming (if you backed our ill-fated 20th anniversary kickstarter, check your messages; these are free for you to download). I’ll be uploading the Table Titans webcomic collection there as well in the near future.

Part of this change is to help me close the book on Toonhound Studios. We had a lot of fun times and made a lot of amazing things under that name. But the company itself is gone and defunct, and I don’t want to maintain websites for projects I haven’t worked on for over six years.

I’m really excited about the next chapter of my career. I’m all in with kid-lit. Table Titans Club book 3 is on my drawing table. I’m working on another graphic novel series and have ideas for a picture book. Creating stories for young readers is the most challenging and rewarding work I’ve ever done. It truly does bring me joy.

Being in your fifties is interesting. I didn’t realize it was such a liminal experience. I’m learning it’s not uncommon to start over in your 50s. Midlife seems to trigger these major shifts. I’ve been beating myself up about it, assuming that starting over indicated I had failed. But I’m done with that thinking.

Toonhound Studios was a good ship that took us on many adventures and weathered many storms. Until the last one, and then she got thrown against the rocks, splintered, and sank. But for a while there she was yar!
